Hearing of persons interested in or objecting to the decision of the Planning Department, approving a Final Mitigated Negative Declaration (Case No. 2003.1152E) adopted and issued on June 22, 2004, for the proposed demolition of an existing one-story, 8,550, square-foot retail building, and the construction an approximately 39,000 gross-square-foot, four-story building consisting of 21 dwelling units, approximately 2,000 gross square feet of retail space, and 21 below-grade parking spaces. The rectangular-shaped project site is on the south side of Bay Street within the City block bounded by Bay, Powell, Francisco, and Mason Streets (bisected east-west by Vandewater Street). The site is in the North Beach area of San Francisco, located at 329 Bay Street, on Assessor's Block 41, Lot 36.
The basis for the appeal is the proposed removal of the existing tree (40 year-old Blackwood Acacia, Acacia melanoxylon) on the Vandewater Street during construction. (Appellants: Arthur Chang, Katherine Petrin, and Carolyn Blair.)
