Resolution urging the Taxi Commission to take all steps within its power with all due haste to improve service to outlying areas of the City, including issuing at least 400 additional taxis; considering neighborhood-only, wheelchair-accessible, compressed natural gas, and other restrictions; creating a workable plan for centralized dispatch; siting neighborhood taxi stands, establishing an easily remembered phone number as a complaint or compliment phone line, and increasing the number of hours of training required for taxi drivers as follows: at least two additional hours in City geography, at least one additional hour in crime prevention, and at least doubling the hours of vehicle and pedestrian safety training required.
